AILU’s Net Zero webinar sponsored by Control Energy Costs
On October 2nd 2024, AILU hosted a webinar on Net Zero, led by Nigel Addison-Evans from Control Energy Costs and David James from Auditel, aimed at providing businesses with practical insights on sustainability and carbon footprint management. The interactive session engaged attendees via Slido and covered key topics such as understanding greenhouse gases and the concept of Net Zero, including the seven gases contributing to climate change. Nigel and David explained the term ‘carbon neutrality’ and offsetting emissions through renewable energy and carbon offset projects.
A significant focus was placed on Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, helping businesses understand the different categories of greenhouse gas emissions and how to measure them. The session also highlighted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Climate Action, and the role of ISO standards in guiding businesses toward Net Zero.
Accurate data collection was stressed as essential for effective carbon accounting and decision-making, with the introduction of the five principles of carbon accounting. The concept of balance sheet tax, already implemented in Denmark and coming soon to the UK, was also discussed, underscoring the importance of accurate emissions reporting.
Nigel concluded the webinar by outlining Control Energy Costs’ services to support businesses on their Net Zero journey followed by a Q&A session led by Dave MacLellan from AILU. A recording of the webinar is available to view for those who missed it.
