Robinson Brothers
Case studies feature image
Founded in 1869, Robinson Brothers is one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers of fine chemicals and rubber accelerators, offering a wide range of custom manufactured chemicals. They supply numerous industries with various applications for the chemicals they produce.
The Black Country Chamber of Commerce introduced Robinson Brothers to Control Energy Costs, as a chamber partner who could add value to their business.
Energy requirements
Robinson Brothers has a significant energy spend of more than £1 million annually. Such an overhead can have a real impact on the bottom line, therefore, it is imperative they get quality advice and work with a true partner who understands the business operationally so they can receive sector-specific advice.
Like most businesses, they are inundated with calls and emails regarding energy. These do not tend to reach the door of the Finance Director, however, on the recommendation of the Chamber, he invited Control Energy Costs in for an initial conversation.
Control Energy Costs’ Sales Director initially met with Robinson Brothers' Finance Director, who explained that the business had a current energy advisor with whom they worked. The Finance Director was keen to benchmark them and understand if they were getting the best value from their existing arrangements.
Working together
Control Energy Costs were given an opportunity to look over the energy spend, contracts and investigate if savings could be made and if there were other opportunities that Robinson Bothers could take advantage of.
They were able to offer a reduced energy spend versus the existing advisor, as well as offering further consultancy services such as:
- Monthly reporting, analysis, and assistance with their climate change agreement
- Forecasting of energy spend, market updates and intelligence for budgetary consideration
- Electricity and gas contract negotiation and management
As a direct result of the close partnership, Control Energy Costs were introduced to their sister company, Endeavour Speciality Chemicals, and they are now working with this part of the business too.
“We have been impressed with their reporting and analysis tools and the fact that we could always reach someone who can answer any of our energy-related questions and queries.”

Why talk to us
Often, businesses might see us as just ‘another energy broker’, but we know that once we are given the opportunity to sit down and discuss how we operate, companies engage positively with us and ultimately become partners.
For any business, energy can be a significant spend, so understanding that you are getting not just value for money but strategic advice and guidance on relevant government schemes and legislation is critical.
We often encounter businesses working with a broker which are not getting the best value or being given advice, so it is always worth a conversation to see if we can help!
